A budget-friendly hands-free cooling solution that works surprisingly well for light activities, but don’t expect it to save you during a Delhi heatwave.

Detailed Review

First Impressions

When I unboxed this Gesto neck fan, my first thought was honestly — it looks like something from a sci-fi movie, but the plasticky build quickly brought me back to reality. The white colour looks clean, and the LED display showing battery and speed is a nice touch at this price. It’s lightweight enough that wearing it doesn’t feel awkward, though my wife said I looked like I was cosplaying as a robot. Fair enough.

How I Tested This

I put this through a proper Indian summer test. Used it while cooking in my kitchen during May when the exhaust fan decided to give up. Wore it during my evening walks in Pune when it was around 35°C. Took it to the gym once (got some weird looks, but comfort over style, right?). Also tested it during a 3-hour power cut when the inverter was running low and we couldn’t use the ceiling fan at full speed. The real test was wearing it while working from home without AC — Mumbai humidity is no joke.

Performance

Let me be straight with you — this isn’t going to replace your AC or even a decent table fan. At speed 1-2, you barely feel anything. Speed 3-4 is where it gets usable, and speed 5 actually pushes decent air. The 360° airflow claim is a bit exaggerated; it blows mostly upward toward your face and neck, which is fine but not the all-around breeze they advertise. Battery life is okay — I got around 2.5 hours on speed 5 and about 5-6 hours on lower speeds. The 1500mAh battery takes roughly 2 hours to fully charge via USB.

The noise is my biggest complaint. On higher speeds, it sounds like a small drone hovering near your ears. Fine for outdoor use or gym, but during work calls? Forget it. My colleagues asked if I was sitting next to a mixer grinder.

Build Quality Concerns

After three weeks of regular use, the flexible neck band started feeling loose. It still works, but I’m not confident about long-term durability. Checking Amazon and Flipkart reviews, I noticed several buyers mentioning similar issues after a month or two. The fan blades also collect dust quickly — cleaning them is a bit fiddly.

Value for Money

For under ₹800, you’re getting what you pay for. It’s a decent temporary relief solution for specific situations — cooking, walking, travelling in non-AC trains. But if you’re expecting serious cooling, save up for a portable mini cooler or just invest in a good handheld fan with stronger airflow.

Our Verdict

The Gesto Neck Fan is a passable budget option for light cooling needs — think kitchen duty, evening walks, or sitting in a non-AC train. But if you need serious relief from Indian summers, this won’t cut it.
