Detailed Review
First Impressions
When this InstaCuppa kettle arrived, my first thought was — this looks like a fancy water bottle, not a kettle. And honestly, that’s the whole point. It’s compact, sleek, and fits into my laptop bag’s side pocket without any drama. The matte finish feels premium enough, and the cool-touch exterior actually works. I touched it mid-boil and didn’t burn my fingers, which is more than I can say for those cheap hotel kettles.
How I Tested This
I took this thing on a 4-day work trip to Pune last month. Used it every morning for my Taj Mahal chai (yes, I carry my own tea bags, judge me) and twice for instant Maggi in the hotel room. I also tested it at home during a power cut using my inverter — worked fine. The temperature control settings are basic but functional. I mostly used the 100°C setting for chai and tried the lower 45°C for mixing protein powder once.
Performance
Here’s the thing — 300 watts means patience. Boiling 400ml of water takes roughly 12-15 minutes. Compare that to my 1500W Kent kettle at home which does it in 3 minutes. But for travel? It’s acceptable. The automatic shut-off kicked in properly every time, and the dry boil protection seems legit — I accidentally switched it on empty once and it just beeped and stopped. The lid seal is decent, no leaks when I kept it horizontal in my bag (after it cooled down, obviously).
Build Quality & Practical Issues
The 500ml capacity is just enough for one large cup or two small ones. If you’re traveling with your spouse and both want chai simultaneously, you’ll need two rounds. The USB-C charging would’ve been nice, but this uses a regular power cable. Also, the temperature display is tiny — my dad would need his reading glasses for sure. Some Amazon reviewers complained about the heating element rusting after 6 months, but I’ve only used it for 2 months so can’t confirm.
Value for Money
At around ₹1,600-1,800, it’s not cheap for what it does. Flipkart has similar Chinese brands for ₹800-900, but InstaCuppa’s build quality feels more reliable. If you travel frequently for work or hate depending on questionable hotel kettles, the investment makes sense. For home use only? Skip it and buy a proper 1.5L kettle instead.
