Portronics Vayu 9.0 Tyre Inflator Review: Worthy companion for long & daily rides

A genuinely useful cordless tyre inflator that handles most Indian road emergencies well, though the battery life could be better for larger vehicles.

Detailed Review

First Impressions

I have seen so many cheap Chinese inflators fail miserably that I did not expect much from this under 2k. But the build quality surprised me. It feels solid in hand, not like those flimsy plastic toys you find on Amazon for 1,500 rupees. The LED display is bright and easy to read even in direct sunlight, which matters when you are stuck on NH48 at noon.

How I Tested This

I put this thing through proper Indian conditions over 6 weeks. First test was on my Honda City’s tyres after they dropped to 26 PSI during the brutal May heat in Gurgaon. Then I used it on my father-in-law’s Activa scooter, my nephew’s bicycle, and even a flat football before a Sunday match. I also deliberately let the battery drain completely and tested the corded mode with my car’s 12V socket during a weekend trip to Jaipur.

Performance

Here is where things get interesting. On my scooter tyre, it pumped from 22 to 30 PSI in about 90 seconds. That is genuinely impressive. But on my car’s 15-inch tyre, going from 26 to 33 PSI took nearly 4 minutes. The motor gets noticeably hot after continuous use, so I would not recommend inflating all four car tyres back to back without giving it a 5 minute break.

The auto shut-off feature actually works. I set it to 32 PSI and it stopped exactly at 32. No guesswork needed. This alone makes it worth buying over those manual gauge inflators.

Battery Reality Check

Portronics claims 3×2000 mAh battery. In real usage, I managed to inflate all four car tyres from low to full on a single charge. For a scooter, you can easily do 5-6 tyres. The Type-C charging is a blessing because I could charge it with my phone charger. Full charge takes around 3 hours with a 15W adapter.

The Noise Issue

My wife complained the first time I used it at 6 AM. It is loud, around 80 decibels by my rough estimate. Not something you want to use in your apartment parking at odd hours.

Build and Accessories

You get adapters for sports balls, bicycle valves, and even those inflatable mattresses. The carrying pouch is decent quality. The 12V car cable is long enough to reach all four tyres when connected to the cigarette lighter socket.

Value for Money

At around 2000 rupees, this is priced fairly for what it offers. The boAt inflator costs similar but I have heard complaints about durability. For occasional emergency use and regular tyre pressure maintenance, this makes sense.

Our Verdict

The Portronics Vayu 9.0 is a solid buy for anyone tired of hunting for petrol pump air machines. Keep it in your car boot and it will save you multiple times a year. If you need faster inflation for SUVs, look at the Baseus or AstroAI wired inflators instead.
