Detailed Review
First Impressions
When the Carrier ESTER EDGE arrived at my flat, I was honestly surprised by how compact the indoor unit looked. The all-white design is understated, which I prefer over those flashy LED strips some brands use. Installation took about 3 hours with the local AC guy, and here is my first tip — make sure your installer knows about the Wi-Fi module placement because mine initially wanted to skip the antenna positioning.
How I Tested This
I have been using this AC for the past 6 weeks, right through the brutal May heatwave when Pune was touching 42°C. My bedroom is around 120 sq ft with one window getting direct afternoon sun. I tested all six convertible modes — from 40% capacity for mild evenings to 110% turbo mode when the room felt like an oven at 3 PM. The geo-fencing feature was interesting; I set it up so the AC switches on when I am 2 km from home. Works about 80% of the time, but sometimes there is a 5-minute delay.
Performance
The cooling is genuinely impressive for a 1-ton unit. On turbo mode, my room goes from 35°C to 24°C in roughly 12-15 minutes. The copper condenser makes a noticeable difference — I have owned aluminium coil ACs before and they struggled in peak summer. Noise levels are decent at lower settings, but at 110% mode, you will hear a definite hum. Not deal-breaking, but do not expect whisper-quiet operation during turbo.
The smart energy display on the unit is actually useful. Showing real-time power consumption helped me realise that running at 24°C instead of 22°C saves me nearly ₹400-500 monthly. The Carrier app works fine, though it is not as polished as Mi Home or LG ThinQ. Connecting to my 5GHz Wi-Fi did not work — it only supports 2.4GHz, which the manual barely mentions.
Value for Money
At around ₹40,000, this is competitively priced against similar Daikin and LG 1-ton 5-star models. The 6-in-1 convertible feature genuinely helps — I use 60% mode most nights and the electricity bill difference from my old 3-star AC is substantial. Amazon reviews mention some complaints about installation delays, which matches my experience; the official Carrier team took 5 days to schedule.
The Quirks
The remote feels cheap for this price point, honestly. Plastic quality is basic and the buttons are mushy. Also, the app sometimes loses connection and needs re-pairing. Not a daily annoyance, but worth mentioning.
