First Impressions
I ordered this Amazon Basics toothpaste dispenser after getting fed up with the mess in our bathroom cabinet. The packaging was decent, nothing fancy. When I unboxed it, the white plastic felt lighter than I expected. Not flimsy exactly, but definitely not premium either. My wife’s first reaction was “yeh kitne din chalega?” and honestly, that question stayed with me throughout testing.
How I Tested This
We mounted this in our Gurgaon flat’s master bathroom. Family of four – me, wife, and two kids aged 8 and 12. Used it daily for about 6 weeks through late October to December. Our bathroom gets pretty humid during showers, and we wanted to see how it handles that moisture. The kids are rough with things, so that was a good stress test too.
Installation Experience
This is where my first complaint comes in. The wall mounting requires drilling, and the screws provided are just okay. I had to use my own wall plugs because the ones in the box felt too small for Indian bathroom tiles. Took me about 40 minutes including the drilling and leveling. If you are not handy with tools, you will need to call someone. The instruction sheet is basic but understandable.
Daily Performance
The automatic toothpaste dispenser is the main attraction here. You push your toothbrush against the slot and paste comes out. Works fine with Colgate and Pepsodent tubes. However, I noticed it struggles a bit with thicker paste like Sensodyne. Sometimes you get too much, sometimes too little. The kids love it though, and it has reduced the mess they used to make.
The magnetic cups are a nice touch. They stick firmly and look clean. But here is the thing – after about 4 weeks, one cup started losing its magnetic grip slightly. Not falling off, but not as snug as before.
The built-in drawer is small but useful for keeping razor, floss, and small items. It does not slide super smoothly, feels a bit sticky sometimes.
Build Quality Concerns
The plastic has started showing minor scratches already. In humid conditions, some water droplets collect inside the dispenser mechanism. I have to wipe it dry every few days to prevent that moldy smell. The white color shows every water stain, which is annoying.
Value for Money
At around 800-1000 rupees, it is not expensive. But I have seen similar products on Amazon from local brands at 500-600 that might do the same job. You are paying a bit extra for the Amazon Basics name. For a rental flat or temporary setup, this is fine. For your permanent home, maybe look at slightly better options.
