I picked up the CookMate 2000W from Amazon during a sale after my old Prestige induction gave up. The box arrived well-packed, and the cooktop itself feels sturdy enough. The glass surface has that standard black glossy finish that looks premium until you actually start cooking and fingerprints take over. The control panel is touch-based with clearly marked buttons for temperature, timer, and preset modes. Honestly, nothing fancy here – it looks like every other induction in this price range.

How I Tested This

I used this cooktop daily for about three weeks. My testing included making pressure cooker dal and rajma, boiling milk every morning, frying pakoras during the monsoon evenings, and even attempting a slow-cooked mutton curry. I specifically tested the auto shut-off by letting water boil dry once – the unit switched off within 40 seconds of the pan going empty, which is reassuring. I also checked the overheat protection by running it at max power for extended periods while making biryani. No issues there. For reference, I was using a Hawkins stainless steel pressure cooker and a local brand kadhai that I verified was induction-compatible.

Performance

The 2000W power is adequate for most tasks. Water boils pretty fast, and the pressure cooker whistles within expected time. The seven preset modes include options for roti, dosa, curry, and fry – but honestly, I found manual temperature control more reliable. The presets felt generic and didn’t adapt to actual cooking conditions. My main gripe is the touch panel. When my hands were wet or had oil on them, the buttons sometimes wouldn’t register, or worse, would register multiple taps. Frustrating when you’re in the middle of a tempering.

But for PG students, small families, or as a secondary cooking option, the CookMate does the job without drama.
