Detailed Review

First Impressions

When the Faber Trendy arrived, I was honestly surprised by how sleek it looked out of the box. The slant design with that black glass finish gives it a modern, premium vibe that instantly elevated my modular kitchen’s look. Installation took about 90 minutes – I’d recommend getting Faber’s authorised team to do it because the ducting angle matters a lot for optimal suction.

How I Tested This

I’ve been using this chimney for about 6 weeks now, and I put it through proper desi kitchen torture tests. We cook a lot of tadka-heavy dals, deep-fried pakoras during monsoon evenings, and my wife makes fish curry at least twice a week. The real test was during a family get-together when we were simultaneously frying puris and making chicken biryani – the kitchen usually becomes a smoke chamber during such sessions. I also tested it during regular roti-making on our gas stove to check everyday performance.

Performance

The 1500 m³/hr suction is no joke. During heavy frying, I ran it on the highest setting and it cleared smoke within seconds. The BLDC motor is noticeably quieter than my neighbour’s conventional chimney – you can actually have a conversation while cooking without shouting. The autoclean feature works decently; I’ve run it maybe 8-10 times now, and the oil collector has accumulated a fair amount of gunk, which tells me it’s actually doing its job.

The gesture control is a mixed bag, though. Sometimes it responds perfectly when I wave my hand, other times I’m standing there like I’m directing traffic. Touch controls work fine, so I mostly stick to those. The filterless design means less maintenance headache – no more scrubbing greasy baffle filters every month.

Build Quality & Concerns

The glass panel looks gorgeous but shows fingerprints and oil splashes easily. I wipe it down every couple of days. One thing I noticed from Flipkart reviews – some users reported LED lights dying after a year. Mine are working fine so far, but that’s something to keep in mind. The 12-year motor warranty is reassuring, though the 2-year comprehensive warranty covers most other issues.

Value for Money

At around ₹20,000, it’s not cheap, but you’re getting BLDC efficiency (lower electricity bills), autoclean convenience, and solid suction. Compared to similarly priced Elica or Hindware models, I think Faber offers better after-sales service in most cities. If you’re building a new kitchen or upgrading from an old chimney, this is a solid investment.

Our Verdict

The Faber Trendy BLDC is a solid choice if you cook heavy Indian food regularly and want a chimney that actually keeps up. Skip the gesture gimmick and use touch controls. If budget is tight, consider the Elica WDFL 606 or Hindware Nevio, but for long-term reliability, Faber’s warranty and service network give it an edge.
