Portronics Dash 2 Wireless Karaoke Mic Review: A unique gift idea for families and parties

A fun party companion with decent sound and great battery life, but don’t expect studio-quality vocals — it’s best for casual singing sessions, kids’ entertainment and especially gifting.

Detailed Review

First Impressions

When I unboxed the Portronics Dash 2, the first thing that caught my eye was the RGB lighting strip running along the mic body. It looks flashy, almost like something you’d see at a New Year’s party. The build feels plasticky but sturdy enough — I wouldn’t worry about it surviving a few drops during enthusiastic performances. It’s surprisingly lightweight too, which is great for kids or long singing sessions.

How I Tested This

I used this mic extensively over two weeks. First test was at my nephew’s 8th birthday party in Pune — about 15 kids taking turns singing Bollywood hits. The mic handled the chaos beautifully. Second, I took it on a road trip to Lonavala, connecting it via Bluetooth to my phone and singing along to old Kishore Kumar songs. The 10W speaker filled our Maruti Ertiga pretty well. I also tested recording quality by recording a few songs and playing them back — this is where things got interesting.

Performance

The Bluetooth connectivity at 2.4GHz is stable within 8-10 meters, though I noticed slight lag when I moved behind walls. The 10W speaker is loud enough for a room of 15-20 people, but don’t expect thumping bass — it’s more mid-focused. The echo and reverb effects are fun for masking off-key singing (guilty as charged), and the duet mode actually works decently if you have two mics.

Battery life impressed me genuinely. I got about 8-9 hours of continuous use at 70% volume, which is close to Portronics’ claim. The RGB lights drain battery faster though, so switch them off if you’re planning longer sessions.

Where It Falls Short

Recording quality is mediocre at best — playback sounds tinny and compressed. Also, the buttons feel cramped, and I accidentally changed settings multiple times while holding it. Several Amazon reviewers mentioned the same issue.

Value for Money

Under ₹1,500, this is honestly a solid buy for house parties, kids’ entertainment, or casual car karaoke. Don’t compare it to proper PA systems — that’s not the point. For what it costs, the Dash 2 delivers fun.

Our Verdict

The Portronics Dash 2 is a genuinely fun karaoke mic for casual use — perfect for birthday parties, road trips, or entertaining kids during summer vacations. Skip it if you want recording capability or audiophile sound. Alternatives worth checking: Zoook Rocker Thunder (more bass), boAt Party Pal series (louder speakers), or CLAW KM2 (better build).
