Detailed Review
First Impressions
When the delivery guys dropped this off at my apartment, I was genuinely surprised by the weight. This thing is HEAVY – around 25-28 kgs if I had to guess. The packaging was decent with thermocol corners, though one corner had a tiny scratch which I only noticed after unpacking everything. The honey brown finish looked richer in person than the product photos, which was a pleasant surprise for once.
How I Tested This
I placed this in our living room entrance for about 6 weeks now. We are a family of four in a 2BHK, so space is always tight. Delhi summer heat reached 44 degrees in May, and we run the AC only in bedrooms, so the living room gets quite warm. I wanted to see how the wood handles temperature changes. My kids (8 and 12) constantly bump into furniture, so durability was a real concern. I loaded the top shelf with my wife’s decorative items, the middle shelf with around 15-18 books, and used the drawers for keys, chargers, and random stuff we always lose.
Build Quality and Design
The sheesham wood is genuine – you can smell it when you first unpack. The grain pattern looks natural and not like those fake laminates. However, here is my main complaint: the two drawers do not align perfectly. The left one sits about 2-3mm higher than the right. My carpenter friend said this is common with mass-produced furniture but still annoying at this price point. The drawer slides are basic metal ones, not soft-close, so they make a clunky sound when you shut them.
Practical Usage
The storage is actually quite useful. Those drawers are deeper than expected – I fit our WiFi router and all the messy cables in one drawer, keeping the top clean. The open shelf below is perfect for shoes near the entrance, though my wife uses it for her plant collection. One thing nobody mentions in reviews – the table height (around 30 inches) is slightly awkward if you want to use it as a proper console for keeping bags when you enter. It feels a bit low.
What Bothered Me
Assembly was not fun. The instruction sheet was a single photocopied page with blurry diagrams. I spent 45 minutes figuring out which screw goes where. Also, the pre-drilled holes were slightly off on one leg, so I had to apply extra pressure to fit the screws. Not a dealbreaker, but frustrating. After 6 weeks, I noticed one small crack developing near the bottom shelf joint – keeping an eye on it.
Value for Money
For solid sheesham at this price, you are getting decent value. IKEA alternatives look modern but feel flimsy. Local carpenter would charge similar for inferior wood. But brands like Woodsworth or Urban Ladder offer better finishing at 30-40% higher price if budget allows.
