A practical back-seat mattress for kids during long road trips, though build quality and sizing have some real-world limitations worth knowing.

Detailed Review

First Impressions

When this arrived, my first thought was — finally, something that might stop my 5-year-old from constantly asking “kitna dur hai” on our Mumbai-Pune drives. The packaging was decent, and the beige fabric looked clean enough. It’s essentially a foldable foam mattress that converts your back seat into a flat sleeping surface for kids. The concept is brilliant for Indian families who do frequent highway trips.

How I Tested This

I used this during our Diwali trip from Bangalore to Mysore with my two kids (ages 4 and 7). We have a Maruti Ertiga, so the back seat is reasonably spacious. Setting it up took about 5 minutes the first time — you basically unfold the mattress, secure it with the straps around the headrests, and the side portions fill the footwell gap. I also tested it during a weekend camping trip near Coorg where we slept in the car overnight.

Performance

The good news — it actually works. My younger one slept comfortably for about 2 hours on the highway, which is a miracle honestly. The foam padding is adequate, not too thin. The storage pockets on the sides are genuinely useful for keeping water bottles, snacks, and toys organized. The polyester fabric didn’t feel too hot even though we were driving in October heat.

Now the problems. The sizing is awkward for compact sedans. In my friend’s Swift, the fit was tight and the mattress kept bunching up. The straps feel flimsy — I’m already worried they’ll snap after a few months. Also, the foam smell was quite strong initially. I had to air it out for 2 days before it was tolerable.

Value for Money

At around ₹3,000, it’s not cheap for what’s essentially foam and fabric. I’ve seen similar products on Amazon.in with mixed reviews — some parents love it, others complain about durability. Flipkart reviews mention the same strap quality concerns I noticed. For occasional use, it’s acceptable. For frequent travelers, I’d invest in something sturdier.

The beige colour shows stains quickly — my kids spilled Frooti within the first hour, and cleaning was a hassle. A darker colour option would’ve been smarter.

Our Verdict

The Allextreme CB-S02 is a decent solution for parents tired of cranky kids on long drives, but don’t expect premium quality at this price. Buy it if you have an SUV or large MPV and take occasional road trips. For frequent travelers, consider spending more on the Carootu car bed or the generic inflatable mattresses that offer better durability.
