First Impressions

When the Daikin box arrived at my flat last April, I was honestly relieved. My old Voltas window AC had given up after 8 years, and with Delhi NCR summers hitting 45+ degrees, I needed something reliable fast. The indoor unit looks clean and minimal – that white finish blends well with most walls. The triple display showing temperature, humidity, and PM 2.5 levels is actually useful, not just a gimmick. Installation took about 3 hours with the local Daikin authorized guy, cost me ₹2,500 extra for copper piping and stand.

How I Tested This

I have been using this AC in my 180 sq ft bedroom in Noida Sector 62 since April 2024. My room gets direct afternoon sun from 2 PM to 6 PM, which makes it brutally hot in peak summer. We are a family of four, and this AC runs roughly 10-12 hours daily from April to September. I also tracked my electricity bills monthly and compared them with my neighbour who has a similar room size but uses a non-inverter AC.

Cooling Performance

Let me be direct – this AC cools the room well, but it is not instant magic. On those horrible 46 degree May afternoons, it took about 15-18 minutes to bring my room from 38 to 24 degrees. The Coanda airflow thing actually works – you feel cool air spreading across the ceiling rather than hitting you directly like a cold blast. My wife appreciated this because she hates sleeping under direct AC draft. At night on sleep mode, it maintains 26 degrees very consistently without those annoying temperature swings.

The PM 2.5 Filter Reality

During Diwali pollution season, I was curious if this filter actually helps. Honestly, I cannot verify the exact PM 2.5 numbers, but I will say the air felt less stuffy compared to my old AC. The Dew Clean technology runs a self-cleaning cycle that removes moisture from the heat exchanger. I noticed fewer musty smells after running it, which was a problem with my previous AC.

Electricity Bills – The Real Test

Here is where it gets interesting. My June bill with heavy AC usage was around ₹3,800 for the whole flat. My neighbour with a similar 1.5 ton non-inverter paid about ₹5,200. Noise Levels

Indoor unit is quiet – around 32-35 dB on normal mode. You barely notice it while sleeping. The outdoor unit is a different story though. It is not loud, but definitely audible from my balcony. My downstairs neighbour has not complained yet, so I think it is acceptable.

What Annoyed Me

The remote feels cheap for a ₹45,000 AC. Buttons are mushy and the display is dim. Also, Daikin’s app connectivity requires a separate WiFi adapter that costs ₹3,000 extra – that feels stingy. The 3-star rating means you are paying Daikin premium for mid-tier efficiency.

Value for Money

This is my biggest concern. At ₹45,000 range, you can get 5-star ACs from LG or Carrier with better energy ratings. Daikin’s build quality and service network are excellent in metros, but in tier-2 cities, finding authorized service can be tricky. I paid for the Daikin name and peace of mind, but budget-conscious buyers have better options.
