Detailed Review
First Impressions
When Urban Company announced they were getting into water purifiers, I was curious but skeptical. After using the M2 PRO for about three months in my Noida flat, I can say they’ve done something interesting here. The unit arrived well-packaged, and the installation team was punctual – which honestly surprised me given my past experiences with RO installations. The purifier itself looks modern with its matte white finish, and it doesn’t scream “water purifier” like those bulky Kent models my parents still use.
How I Tested This
My building gets municipal water with TDS hovering around 450-500 ppm, which is pretty typical for NCR. I tested the output water using a basic TDS meter – consistently getting readings between 35-50 ppm, which is excellent. What really mattered to me was taste. My wife is very particular about drinking water, and she immediately noticed the difference from our old Livpure. The copper and alkaline stages do seem to add a slightly smoother taste, though I’ll admit this could be placebo. I also tracked our water wastage – the 60% recovery rate they claim held up reasonably well in my testing, maybe closer to 55% realistically.
Performance
The 10-stage purification sounds like marketing overkill, but the UV and RO combination handles our Delhi water without issues. Flow rate is decent at around 15-18 litres per hour. The 8-litre tank fills up quickly enough that we’ve never run out during morning rush hours. What I genuinely appreciate is the app – it shows real-time TDS, filter health, and water consumption. When my sediment filter hit 80%, the app notified me three days before it actually needed changing. No pushy upselling, just straightforward alerts.
The Subscription Model
Here’s where opinions will divide. Urban Company pushes their annual maintenance plan hard – around ₹3,500 per year. It includes all filter replacements and service visits. Compared to what I used to pay for my Aquaguard (₹2,000-2,500 for filters alone, plus service charges), it’s actually competitive. But if you prefer buying filters yourself from Amazon, you’re somewhat locked into their ecosystem. The filters aren’t standard sizes.
Value for Money
At around ₹20,000, it’s priced between budget options like Livpure and premium ones like Kent Grand Plus. For what you get – smart features, transparent maintenance costs, and solid build quality – I think it’s fair. The copper cartridge is a nice touch for those who care about that traditional angle. Just don’t expect miracles from the alkaline stage; the pH change is minimal based on my testing.
