Detailed Review
First Impressions
When the delivery guys hauled this beast into my Bangalore apartment, my first thought was ‘where on earth is this going to fit?’ At 653 litres, this Samsung is massive. The black matte finish looks stunning though – way better than the glossy fingerprint magnets I’ve owned before. The build quality feels premium, doors close with a satisfying thud, and the digital display on the front adds a nice modern touch.
How I Tested This
I’ve been using this fridge for about 7 weeks now, through Bangalore’s unpredictable weather. My family of five goes through weekly grocery runs – we’re talking 4-5 kg vegetables, dairy, cold drinks, and my wife’s meal prep containers. I specifically tested the convertible modes during a week when my in-laws visited (needed max freezer space for ice cream and frozen parathas) and then switched back when they left. The AI mode supposedly learns your usage patterns – honestly, I couldn’t tell a dramatic difference, but the consistent cooling was noticeable.
Performance
The Digital Inverter compressor is genuinely quiet. My previous LG would hum loudly at night – this one barely makes a sound. Cooling is even throughout, and the deodorizer does help with that typical fridge smell. The WiFi connectivity through SmartThings works decently if you’re already in Samsung’s ecosystem, but I found myself rarely using it after the initial novelty wore off.
The 5-in-1 convertible feature is actually useful. I keep it in ‘Home Alone’ mode when travelling, which saves power. However, the ice maker is painfully slow – takes almost 3 hours for a decent batch. Also, being a 3-star rating, don’t expect miracles on your electricity bill. Mine averages around ₹800-1000 per month just for the fridge during summer.
Value for Money
At nearly a lakh rupees, this is firmly in premium territory. Flipkart reviews mention similar concerns about the energy rating, while Amazon.in buyers seem happier with the space and build quality. For this budget, you could also look at LG’s 687L model or Haier’s convertible options. But if black matte aesthetics and Samsung’s service network matter to you, this is solid.
One annoyance – the door alarm is overly sensitive. Leave it open for 30 seconds while loading groceries and it starts beeping like crazy.
