Detailed Review
First Impressions
When the Safari Genius Alley set arrived, I was genuinely surprised by how solid it felt for the price. The navy blue finish looks premium enough that you wouldn’t be embarrassed pulling these out at an international airport. The polypropylene shell has that satisfying rigidity – I pressed down hard on the top and it barely flexed. No cheap hollow sounds here.
How I Tested This
I’ve used this set across three trips over the past four months. First was a Rajdhani journey to Delhi where the large bag got tossed around by coolies at New Delhi station – survived without a scratch. Then a Goa flight where I checked in the medium bag stuffed with 18 kgs (slightly over, shh). Most recently, the cabin bag came with me on an IndiGo Bangalore trip. I intentionally overpacked, sat on it to close the zipper, and wheeled it through Bengaluru’s rain-soaked footpaths. The real test? My mother-in-law borrowed the large one for her Vaishno Devi trip. It came back with scuff marks but structurally perfect.
Performance
The 360-degree wheels are genuinely smooth on airport floors and work decently on Indian railway platforms – though they struggled a bit on Churchgate’s uneven tiles. The telescopic handle has a slight wobble on the large bag, nothing deal-breaking but noticeable when fully extended. Here’s my honest gripe: the zippers feel a tad flimsy. On the medium bag, I had to jiggle it twice to get it unstuck near the corners. Inside, the compartments are practical – mesh pockets, cross straps, nothing fancy but gets the job done.
Build Quality & Durability
PP material means it won’t crack easily in our summer heat or during monsoon humidity. I’ve seen Flipkart reviews mentioning cracked shells, but after my rough usage, mine are holding up fine. The combination locks work smoothly, though I’d still use a separate TSA lock for international travel.
Value for Money
At under ₹9,000 for three bags during sales, this beats buying individual American Tourister or Skybags pieces. You’re not getting VIP-level refinement, but for annual family vacations or occasional work trips, it’s genuinely good value. Amazon reviews echo this – most complaints are about delivery dents, not product quality.
