Detailed Review

First Impressions

When the ELEPHANTBOAT ceiling light arrived, I was genuinely surprised by the packaging – decent thermocol protection and all screws included. The light itself feels lighter than expected, which made me a bit skeptical about durability. The back amber light design looked interesting in photos, and in person, it does add a nice ambient glow to the edges. Not premium by any stretch, but for the price, it looked presentable enough to install in my study room.

How I Tested This

I mounted this in my 12×10 feet study room in Pune and used it daily for about three weeks. Tested it during both daytime work sessions and late-night reading. I specifically checked how the colour temperature shift works – from warm 3000K for evening relaxation to cool 6500K when I needed to stay alert during WFH calls. Also tested the dimming during our frequent power fluctuations to see if it resets settings after voltage drops. The amber backlight got tested during movie nights when I wanted subtle ambient lighting without the main light being harsh.

Performance

The 48W output is genuinely bright – easily illuminates my medium-sized room without any dark corners. The colour temperature range actually works as advertised, which I was skeptical about given the price. Warm light at 3000K is cozy enough for dinner time, and 6500K is properly white, not that bluish-fake-white you get from cheap LEDs. The dimming function is smooth, not steppy like some budget lights I’ve tried before.

However, the remote is where things get annoying. Range is maybe 4-5 meters max, and you need to point it quite precisely at the light. Through walls? Forget it. Also, after a power cut, the light defaults to full brightness at 6500K, which means fumbling for the remote at 2 AM when power comes back. The amber backlight is a nice touch for ambiance, but it’s not as bright as the product images suggest – more of a subtle glow than a proper accent light.

Build Quality Concerns

The plastic body feels thin. I’m not confident about longevity beyond a year or two, especially given how hot ceiling fixtures can get during summer. The mounting plate is basic metal, does the job. I noticed some Flipkart reviews mentioning flickering after few months – mine hasn’t shown this yet, but worth keeping in mind.

Value for Money

For under ₹2,000, you’re getting dimmable, colour-adjustable lighting with a remote – features that cost ₹4,000+ from brands like Philips or Havells. If you’re furnishing a rental or a guest room where you don’t want to invest heavily, this makes sense. For your main bedroom or living room, I’d still recommend spending more on established brands.

Our Verdict

The ELEPHANTBOAT 48W is a solid budget pick if you want smart-ish lighting without the smart price tag. Buy it for secondary rooms or rentals where longevity isn’t critical. For main living spaces, consider spending extra on Philips Wiz or Wipro Smart LED panels instead.
