Detailed Review
First Impressions
When the Lock Pro arrived, I was genuinely surprised by the build quality. It’s hefty — around 1.5 kg — and feels like something that belongs on a premium apartment door. The matte black finish looks classy against my teak door, and the fingerprint sensor placement is intuitive. Urban Company sent their technician for installation, and honestly, this is where they shine. The guy spent nearly 90 minutes ensuring everything was perfect, even adjusted my door frame slightly because the alignment was off.
How I Tested This
I’ve been using this lock for about 6 weeks now across Mumbai’s pre-monsoon humidity and the occasional power cut. My test involved registering 8 different fingerprints (mine, wife’s, parents, and our maid), setting up the video doorbell, and deliberately trying to confuse the system with wet fingers and sweaty hands. I also had my 12-year-old try to bypass it using random PINs — the lockout feature kicked in after 5 wrong attempts, which is reassuring.
Performance
The fingerprint recognition is fast, maybe half a second on dry fingers. Wet hands? Takes 2-3 tries sometimes, which can be annoying when you’re rushing home in the rain. The HD camera quality is decent for a doorbell — 1080p works fine during daytime, but night vision is grainy. I can see who’s at the door, but don’t expect CCTV-level clarity. The two-way talk feature has slight lag, about a second delay, but delivery guys understand me fine. Battery backup during power cuts lasted through a 4-hour outage without issues.
The App Experience
Here’s where I have mixed feelings. The Native app works, but it’s not as polished as something like Mi Home. Notifications sometimes come 10-15 seconds late. The activity log is useful though — I can see exactly when our maid arrived and left, which settles those “did she come today?” arguments with my wife.
Value for Money
At nearly ₹25-30K, this isn’t cheap. Yale and Godrej offer simpler smart locks for ₹15-18K, but they don’t have cameras. If you’re comparing it to buying a separate video doorbell (₹8-10K) plus a smart lock (₹15K), the Lock Pro actually makes sense. The 1-year warranty and Urban Company’s service network in metros adds peace of mind.
